Guest Lecturer on Speech processing Current problems and Challenges held on 18-2-2015

Event Description

‘Guest Lecture’ is an activity organized by Dept. of E.C.E of K L University on 18-02-2015 from 11.30 A.M to 1:30 P.M. The Guest Lecture is given by Dr.Anil Kumar Vuppala,Asst.Professor, IIIT Hyderabad. The topic of the Guest Lecture is “Speech Processing Current Problems and Challenges”. In order to contribute to the Department mission, Guest Lecture is organized in our campus premises to bring awareness among the III year E.C.E students of K L University regarding the Problems and challenges in Speech signal Processing.

Session Activities

E.C.E Department had made the necessary arrangements for the Guest Lecture activity in the campus premises before the scheduled time of the event. The student team for the event consisted of 5 members. The faculty Incharge(s) explained the student team regarding the outline of the event conduction. The students were under their supervision throughout the event. The faculty Incharge(s) had started the event by inviting the guest of honor Dr.Anil Kumar Vuppala on to the dais to start the lecture. In the lecture he has elaborately explained about how speech processing is important in our daily activity. He has specified about the Expression recognition, Emotion recognition, Speech recognition, voice conversion, purpose of speech coding, speaker identification and language identification. He did mentioned why there is a problem to apply the speech processing models on Indian Language. He said the big challenge is to identify the Indian languages using the speech processing. Students of 3rd year E.C.E had actively participated in this session. More than 500 students had taken active participation in the event. Faculty from the E.C.E department, K L University had interacted with the speaker. Dr.MSG Prasad, I/C HOD(Dept.of ECE) of K L University had attended the event and delivered his valuable message on the necessity to conduct the Guest Lecture. The Speaker was honored by Dr.MSG Prasad with a memento. Students showed their interest in understanding the challenges to apply the speech processing over Indian languages
