Welcome to Department of Petroleum Engineering


The department of Petroleum Engineering at KLU has been established in the year 2014, which is the First Deemed University offering Petroleum Engineering course exclusive in south India. The curriculum has been designed under K L University as a centre of excellence to grab jobs in Petro Corridor in coastal region of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarath,India.
The Department of Petroleum Engineering strives to be center of excellence in education, research and training to producing high quality engineers and researchers. In this endeavor the department will continuously develop knowledge and quality of staff, upgrade and create program, new laboratory facilities, revise the teaching program acquire adequate new equipment to keep abreast, contribute and progress in emerging technologies and committed for rendering the best service to the society.
The B.Tech. Petroleum engineering program trains students in Petroleum Engineering and focuses primarily on exploration and production of Oil & Gas.

The major specializations in Petroleum Engineering are:

Petroleum Upstream Engineering is one of two specializations in the B.Tech. track in Petroleum Engineering. In this specialization, students will able to learn about the development of production plans in which it has to specify the best sites in which to drill and which production strategies should be employed in order to extract the gas and oil most efficiently. Through field work and research activities, students will also acquire practical knowledge and experience on drilling and well completion. Throughout this internationally oriented programme, students will acquire extensive knowledge of reservoir simulation, along with a wide variety of engineering skills. In addition to the fundamentals of current oil and gas exploitation technology, students will learn how to enhance oil production from conventional and unconventional reserves. Considerable attention is devoted to the flow behaviour of liquids in rock and transportation of oils.


Petroleum Downstream Engineering is the other specialization in Petroleum Engineering. In this specialization, students will learn about the processing techniques of petroleum refinery and natural gas and its products. Petroleum downstream engineers are involved in the full life cycle of field development from conceptual design through the production phase, abandonment and eventually cost estimating and budgeting.
