National Seminar on "Current Trends in Bioprocess Technology"

A two-day National Seminar on "Current Trends in Bioprocess Technology ? A special emphasis on Value-added Bio-products (Alternative Fuels, Therapeutics and Vaccines)" was organised by the Department of Biotechnology, K L Deemed to be University, Vaddeswaram, Guntur, on Feb. 12th & 13th, 2010, supported by Ministry of Earth Sciences and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi.

The event was presided over by the Chancellor, Er. K. Satyaranayana, along with the Vice-Chancellor of K L Deemed to be University, Dr. G.L. Datta. The Chief Guest of honor Dr. B. D. Kaushik (Professor of Eminence, Division of Biotechnology, Netaji Subash Institute of Technology, New Delhi).

The Seminar also witnessed quality deliberations ranging from academicians to scientists including Dr. B. Nagarajan (Professor & Chairman, Tumor Biochemistry & Microbiology, Cancer Institute, Chennai), Dr. A. R. Phani (Director, Nano-Research for Advanced Materials Technologies, Bangalore), Dr. G. Satyanarayana (IIT, Chennai), Dr. J. V. Rao (Scientist F, Deputy Director, Biology Division, IICT, Hyderabad) and Dr. Y. V. Nancharaiah (Scientist Officer F, Bio-fouling and Bio-film Processes, BARC, Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu).

The speakers emphasized on the prospects of the recent trends in Bioprocess Technology and their applications for the betterment of mankind, with major emphasis on the development of sustainable and carbon neutral energy sources to meet the future needs. The potential of Nano-biotechnology in revolutionizing the field of research was the talk of the day. Oral and poster sessions were organized in which participants had a chance to interact with the delegates in conveying and sharing their ideas. About Four hundred students from different Universities and colleges attended the Seminar making it a grand success.
