About Department

Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the Academic Year 1980-81. It is one of the premier department of the university with a strong back-up of 85 faculty, specialised in the core area of mechanical engineering, There are 20 faculty with Ph.D degree.

The Department offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Research Programs. The Department offers B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with Specializations in Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Mechatronics etc. The Department also offers B.Tech (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering, Integrated B.Tech & M.Tech Programs with options of M.Tech in Thermal Engineering and Mechatronics.

The Department is the proud host of DST FIST 2012, Grant Center of Excellence in Robotics and Mechatronics.

The Department houses 8 well equipped state of the art laboratories, 6 Research labs, One Center under Industry Collaboration with Altair Engg. Inc, and One Center of Excellence. These labs have specific emphasis on various experimental set ups for Research and Development activities.

Mechanical Engineering deals with the formulation, design, development, and control of systems and components involving solid mechanics, dynamics and controls, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, manufacturing and the conversion of energy into useful work. Industries that use mechanical engineers are involved in robotics, computer aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM), automotive/transportation, air-conditioning and refrigeration, and machine-to-machine interaction or machine-to-human interaction.

The Department deals all the Core engineering subjects, through an attached Software module from MATLAB, HyperWorks, ANSYS, Pro/Engineer, FLUENT, SolidWorks, ADAMS . Faculty are well trained in these softwares and are capable of developing teaching and learning outcomes.

Curriculum is totally in line with current practices in Industry and is rigorous enough to prepare students for successful careers after graduation. When students graduate they are equipped with mechanical engineering tools, problem solving, computer skills.

The department organizes various conferences and workshops at regular intervals. The department organizes National Level Competitions in Association with ASME, SAE and ISHRAE – Students Club; The department enjoys strong tie-ups with Industry, academic institutions and research labs.

The department and K L University are part of The Vijayawada Auto Cluster and CII- Vijayawada zone, wherein students, faculty, technicians are having mutual sharing of expertise from automobile, core Mechanical Engineering industries of the Vijayawada region.

The areas of Expertise in the department include: Rotor Dynamics, Non Linear and Higher order Vibrations, Condition Monitoring, Robotics, Alternate Fuels, Renewable Energy Resources, Supply Chain Management and Smart Materials including Composites, Mechatronic Systems design.

The Department has established advanced R & D facilities by establishing centre of excellence to propagate emerging technologies and develop cutting edge technologies in the field of Alternate Energy and Mechatronics.The department executes Research projects funded by various funding agencies : Defense Research Development Organization, Department of Science & Technology, University Grants Commission and All India Council of Technical Education.The placement record of Mechanical Engineering department is highly impressive. The Alumni occupy esteemed positions in various reputed organizations both within the country and abroad.

The Department has signed MOU's with Altair; Autoli; Pricol Technologies; APHMEL; Railway Wagon Workshop; Honeywell Automation India Limited; Siemens India Limited; FMC Technologies India; Robo Core School, Lakshmi Tool Tech; Kumar Pumps; Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd ;Jocil Industries; Efftronics Systems Pvt. Ltd ; Visra Mechatronics, Lakshmi Ganapathi Engineering works; Krishna Dt. Milk Producers Mutually Aided Coop Union Ltd; Hinduja Foundries and OGNI Group.

Students of the department have been placed in various companies like: FMC Technologies, TCS, Infotech, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, NTT Data, Satyam Ventures, Amarraja Batteries, Knoh Solutions, Infosys, Hyundai, Global Logic and Keeline,Thermodyne and Thermax.

A significant number of graduating engineers are pursuing their higher education in various Universities abroad by securing higher qualifying grades in GRE/ TOEFL/IELTS etc.
