Foreign Nationals:
A person who lives outside India and is not a citizen of India.
Persons of Indian Origin (PIO):
A person of Indian birth, descent, or origin who live outside the Republic of India.
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI):
Overseas citizen of India, who migrated from India and acquired citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan and Bangladesh, are eligible for grant of OCI as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.
Non Resident Indians:
A non-resident Indian (NRI) is a citizen of India who holds an Indian passport and has temporarily migrated to another country for six months or more for work, residence or any other purpose.
NRI Sponsored Students:
A resident Indian student whose direct blood relative (Parents, Grandparents, direct brother or sister of parents or the candidate) committing to sponsor, has an NRI status. Once the student is admitted under this category there cannot be any change in the status during his study period even if there is a change in the status of the sponsor.
