Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) are miniature devices that enable the operation of complex systems. They exist today in many environments, specially automotive, medical, consumer, industrial and aerospace. Micro Systems also known as Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) is the integration of mechanical elements, sensors, actuators and electronics on a common silicon substrate through micro fabrication technology. Coupled with the smart materials and systems technology, Micro Systems find applications from aerospace to automobile engineering and from environmental monitoring to biomedical health sciences. In the present e-era, global technologies that have a synergistic combination of Mechanical engineering, Electronic controls and Information Technologies are penetrating into the field of Micro Systems. Micro Systems promise to revolutionize nearly every product category by bringing together silicon based microelectronics with micromachining technology, making possible the realization of complete systems-on-a-chip.

MEMS R&D group of KLU is now working on the following potential research problems

  1. Tuberculosis (TB) cell measurements using MEMS Triple Coupled Cantilever Sensors

  2. Design and Fabrication of MEMS Multi Sensor Chip for Green Houses

  3. Fabrication and Characterization of Low Frequency Accelerometer for Early stage detection of Parkinson Disease

  4. Design and Fabrication of Sensors for Bio-applications.

  5. MEMS Cantilever Sensors for Microfluidic applications.
